WHAT ARE WE LEARNING: Water Drop: A lesson using a FAST shutter Speed!
WHY IS IT IMPORTANT: Learning to freeze motion is important for capturing clear, sharp images of fast-moving subjects, preserving action that would otherwise be a blur. This technique allows you to freeze decisive moments, like a sports player mid-jump or a child mid-laugh, and it is achieved by using a fast shutter speed. Mastering this skill gives photographers the control to decide whether to stop or show movement in their photos, opening up a wider range of creative possibilities.
HOW WILL MY TEACHER KNOW WHAT I LEARNED: You will follow along with instruction and use what we have learned to create amazing photos!
Please keep cameras dry!
Remember Cameras and Water do NOT mix!
Though we will be working together, you ALL should turn in DIFFERENT images!
For this assignment, you will better understand how to use shutter speed as we photograph dropping fruit into water and capturing the splash it makes. Get ready to get wet!. The goal is to capture the essential elements of the image and draw the viewer's attention to those specific details.
You will work with a partner on this assignment but you EACH need to take photos (sharing photos is not allowed). One will be responsible for dropping the fruit (lemon, lime, apple), and the other will be taking the photo. Be sure to start shooting before you drop the fruit. Alternate taking photos (each day).
Remember to be ready when the fruit drops!!
This task will test your patience!
Using a FAST shutter speed, create a photo where the water/fruit "freezes"!
Set your camera to M!
You are in control of ALL settings again!
M (Manual)
Set your ISO to 100! (Base ISO)
You will adjust this accordingly.
Remember, once you set your shutter speed and aperture, check the ISO to make sure the exposure meter is in the center!
SHUTTER SPEED: at least 1/1000
Remember this does NOT allow alot of light in! You must adjust the ISO and aperture!
Set your APERTURE!
Try for a setting of f7!
Remember a small number means a bigger opening and shallow DOF
Large Number means more will be in focus!
Click the Right Cross Key
Lets change the Drive mode to
High Speed Continuous (H+)
This will help fire off multiple shots as the fruit drops!!
This means you click the button and hold until the fruit is submerged!!
Cross Keys are located BELOW the MENU button...
CROSS KEYS
Exposure Compensation (Up)
Self-Timer/Drive Mode (Right)
Erase Button (down)
AF/MF Button (left)
Click the Q Button in the center of the cross keys...
Lets change the Focus mode to SERVO
This means you click the button one shot at a time!
Press the Q button

Auto Focus Area (top left AF button):
How much of your camera is able to see with your auto focus
Spot: only that little box will have it in focus. Good for Portraits.
Whole Area Auto Focus: Camera will determine what needs to be in focus.
Good for Landscapes
Take your time... Focus and take a few shots. Be patient!
Don't rush!
ALL PHOTOS MUST BE DIFFERENT (not just the series of the same shot)!
We will be set up outside of this room ONLY! Do NOT wander off!
